The bubba baby happened in 97 or 98, but other things happened before then that might have gotten people thinking about their preconceptions about child potential. My Gramps used to make this gesture with his hand whenever we stood in photos that I've seen in a lot of photos of young men and women standing with a person of their grandfather's generation. It tends to seem to mean that this person will protect this person against all the harms people might want to cause them, but these people don't tend to follow them into adulthood very far, it becomes a message to the future that if you have bought this person you have the potential to profit very well from further sustained investment.
But I can't stop thinking that looking at this boxer is entirely narcissistic on my part. Infants and others can channel also especially if nothing inhabited them to begin with and their life was short.
And in some photos I see another man, a cousin of mine who didn't make it through to the end of the soviet years intact, and these men can be two places at once sometimes.
