Most of us take an interest in social causes over a sense of unfairness we sustain in childhood. Unfortunately for many of us, this sense of unfairness is inflicted in a personal way by corrupt government officials or people working in government affiliated endeavors like the school system, who know our names and have all the phone numbers that we cant get access to even with the legal right to them.
One thing that people tell us is that if we want to tackle the problems we keep bringing up we have to go to university and become PhDs and become experts in some minutely specific field that relates to the exact thing that is being done to us that we are not allowed to talk about at all otherwise.
So I came here to get a PhD.
The problem is that in order to finish a PhD you have to hand in a dissertation and defend it in speech clearly and with sparkle. And after that people decide whether or not it is enough from you and they can arbetrarily decide that it isnt.
That is if you get into a program
That is if you can find a way to pay for it
And the whole time I was getting my Bachellor's and Master's I was constantly aware that I did not have a secure home, and I was constantly hearing stories about people whose entire lifes work would dissapear from their homes the week or month before their dissertation was due.
And the last semester of my Master's degree, my home was entered while I was in the bath and my hard drive was distroyed with 4 semesters of graduate papers in it. The person who did it didnt even bother to put both screws back in the side of my tower case.
Meanwhile...
In Japan people like me are in demand all around the countryside, though no one knows certainly who we are or what we do, just that we fix things and make adjustments but like to remain anonymous, so when they want us to come they have a festival so there are lots of strangers around. And when they want us to come they hang out streamers made of paper, and when those paper streamers look ratty we know we have stayed long enough.
This town has so many problems they made their streamer out of limestone.
