I want to get the poipu palace cage which isn't super big, but birds just sit there most of the day and night and dont fly inside of cages. A severe macaw is 18-19 inches to the tip of the tail but this tail is much longer than that of a 15 inch amazon or grey. Its sorta like a cockatiel and a quaker are listed as the same size bird but a quaker is really a much bigger bird without feathers, a severe is about the same size of an amazon just with more feathers.
The macaw beak is a little spooky, I can get good work gloves for the initial tame up period and before the bird learns how to nibble but not bite. Olaf chews on me all the time and when it gets too strong he knows I'm not having fun anymore. I pester Sunny by grabbing her a little sometimes, and usually she doesn't bite me for real, but she mopes a lot, I think she's susceptable to the hormone issue from the neighbors. She likes to play the she flys away and I follow game and if I don't play she mopes more than if I do.
Anyway, I have to save up the $899 and $399 for the poipu palace and the $100-155 for shipping and the $40 for a shipping container before December of some year when Mike no longer works for BHA and the price may go up before then.
I just like this bird's face, and its half the price of an eclectus, though if I really wanted an eclectus I would save up for one. Talking isn't as important as playfulness.
