Redemption Song Revisited

The song Bob Marley used to sing was modified to suit the radio. The original was much more beautiful. It was a true story about an islamic schollar, I forget what era, who defied the government's choice to change islamic rulings to suit themselves. When he defended the rule of law and the rights of the poor even against the rich he was brought under the judgement of the modified courts. He was sold into slavery and I believe he was eventually bought to serve as an acountant on a merchant ship because he was trustworthy. When the ship was raided by pirates he was taken as booty, but the pirates became impressed with his character and under his instruction became muslims, at the same time under their instruction he became a pirate. He taught them that they werent going to hell for their circumstances but for their choices, and if they chose the lesser of two evils, Allah would count the lesser of the evil deeds as a provisionary good deed. He also encouraged them to do some good to people if they could to make up for the times when there was no way around doing wrong. No religious person had ever talked to them like that, most had been done wrong even by their own families as well.
