Farmers in the US don't even attempt it. It always burns up before harvest.
That's one of the reasons non cultivating groups were encouraged to settle in central Asia in the first place. It would often happen that some organized country would start cultivating up there and the world would grow dependent on their produce to the point that they stopped being self feeding and put their land to other uses like growing grapes for wine then there would be a hundred year summer and everyone would feel it.
But those hundred year summers aren't always so natural. It is a lot harder to kill winter wheat because its greener and more flexible during the worst weather while summer wheat is more brittle and it takes less of a storm to knock it all down.
Donny and I practiced making storms a few years back. I was conscious of it for a while but when I got dumped in a mental hospital I realized, probably just concurrently that I might not want to be so aware of these things.
*Bruce was planning the hospital dump before I went to see Dad and Donny, and Donny's practicing new moves and sorting out misunderstandings did stand out from the other manipulations Bruce and others were doing without my consent but not enough to be beyond usual deviation and they already "knew I was weird" which was why I was in that situation. When I stopped being as interactive for a while I sent a worded message that said "I need to be less aware to cut down the possible intensity of concurrent occurrences" at which point Dad and Donny stopped worrying that I might have some real stress issues*
